Whose picture is this?
He is Sri Madan Mohan Malvya, a great freedom fighter, an uncompromising Nationalist and an undiluted Patriot. He was the founder of the most famous Banaras Hindu University, the Centre of Knowledge and the Temple of Goddess Saraswathi. For starting this university he collected one crore of rupees in one day. He was acclaimed as the Prince of Beggars and also as Money Making Machine(MMM) Madam Mohan Malvya.
This university created many patriots, freedom fighters, revolutionaries and matyrs.
Poojaneeya Sri Guruji Golwalkar the Sar Sanghachalak of RSS was a Jewel of this university. He was a student and later a Professor of th is sacred university. Sri Jagjivanram , the former Deputy Prime Minister of India and the father of the present Speaker of Parliment, Smt. Meira Kumar was another product of the same university.
An Interesting Episode
When Sri Jagjivanram was in the university hostel the servants of the hostel were not cleaning his plates because he was a Harijan. Sri Malavya Ji came to know of it. The next day he went to the hostel and himself cleaned all the plates.
What a silent message and lesson for all?
Sri Malavya Ji was born on 25th December 1861. All those born on 25th December are not great but two more great men were born on that day Jesus Christ and Sri Atal Behari Vajpayee, the Nobel Prime Minister of our country.
Sri Malavya Ji was two years elder to the great son of India Sri Swamy Vivekananda who was born in the year 1863.
Malavya Ji went to the Round Table Conference along with Mahatama Gandhiji. He refused to wear the western dress and wore the Dhoti and Jibba. He was not willing even to drink the water of England and carried the sacred waters of Ganga to England.A Nationalist to the core
Those days there was a strong Hindu sentiment that if the body of a dead person is cremated at kasi, there would be no no re-birth. Though Malavya Ji was practically a King of Banaras, he wanted his body to be cremated outside Banaras because he wanted to take one more birth on this sacred soil of Bharat to see it independent. It was unfortunate that he left this world in 1946 just one year befor independence.
I was then in my inter 1st year. We demanded a holiday for the college but denied because we were then under the British rule.
Malavya Ji was of the storng opnion and firm faith that Hindu is not a religion. It is a way of life. It is therefore the Culture and the Nationality of India. People beloning to all religions;rather to any religion living in this country are all Hindus. Malavya Ji lived totally for the people. Living for the people, you know children;is a task every second and challenge every inch.
This year the country is celebrating the 150 years of memory of this Great Son of India.
What can we do to him?
Stand before his portrait in silence; Paaay homepag to the great soul, shed two tears of patriotism, if you have any, and take pledge to create a clean, strong and corruption free Bharat.
